5 Millenia Ahead / Neverland
Dreams are multiversal memories.
They joined minds and shared my dreams.
In their eyes I was a relic to be preserved
for I am living in a physical body.
I cannot swap my shell, and
I do not have a genetic identifier.
I cannot be cloned.
None of my dream sharers would
really comprehend what it is like
to live with an ultimate end, and
to be aware of it.
They had a self that can
exist without a body.
They recognized the code
my mother and I shared, and knew.
I dreamed about her.
She and I were in a hospital,
visiting my dying grandmother.
Her scarred hand held mine, and
she looked at me but could not speak.
She was a woman with a universe
of memories, many of which
she had shared with me
by talking endlessly.
On her deathbed, she gave me
a few more memories
through her eyes.
It felt like she wanted to give me
so many still,
But she could not give any more,
and this seemed to be
her only regret.
Now I remember her memories
by looking at my mom.
She does not talk a lot about
her mother,
I have to watch.
I dreamed her hands reaching
out to me, but they were
going right through me.
Her mouth was morphing into
a mute scream.
My dream sharers mourned
with a shapeless thought.
In this distant place of spacetime,
I left behind more than
one dream and one memory.
I knew the joined minds would
keep and pass them along
to their mirrorminds in the other
universes.
And some of my dreams
have been their memories since.
